AGUA DE LAGRIMAS - mime performance
Mr. Jefferson is an experienced elderly perfume master.
He gained acclaim by designing his most famous fragrance.

Unfortunately, fashions change, and the fame wanes, too.

One day, Frollo knocks at his door; a creature hideous to the point of being scary.

In exchange for accommodation, he proposes to take care of the house.

Mr. Jefferson, who wants to devote himself entirely to creating a new fragrance, accepts that tempting offer.

The consequences will soon become apparent...

The play "Agua de Lagrimas" is a kind of an impression on the novel "Perfume" by Suskind.

Here however the whole story is being told between . and beyond words which in the end results in a well-elaborated piece of the real mime art

REVIEWS OF AGUA DE LAGRIMAS PERFORMANCE
A TRUE MASTERPIECE

Such a performance in the style of traditional Marcel Marceau mime is Agua de Lagrimas directed by Lionel Ménard. It is an excellent show by the Warsaw Mime Centre, told in the language of Marcel Marceau.
All the actors: Marta Grądzka, Ewelina Grzechnik, Maja Pieczarek, Paweł Kulesza and Bartłomiej Ostapczuk presented good educational background and high-level artistic skills. Bartłomiej Ostapczuk, who played the main character, may count this role among his best artistic performances. This was a true masterpiece.

The actor lead his character through a variety of situations, showing a range of his internal experiences. Bartłomiej Ostapczuk’s Frollo is in turn afraid, anxious, helpless, happy, fascinated by a woman; he experiences unrequited love and strong emotions. On the outside he is a repulsive, dirty, neglected homeless tramp. However, one facial expression, body posture, hand gesture is enough for us to see a completely different man in him. His outer shell then disappears and we can see Frolo’s state of mind and what he is going through on the inside. Every movement, every gesture, every detail is used consciously here; each one touches on a relevant area of experiences and carries a meaning.
Bartłomiej Ostapczuk’s character is both moving and funny. He combines the melancholy of a Chaplinesque character with subtly expressed humour and Pierrot from Commedia dell'Arte. A magnificent role, an excellent show. What is important is that the performance is a narrative, thus we can follow the development of the character. Graphic signs also play a significant part. It would be a great pity if this premiere show of the Warsaw Mime Centre was not included in the permanent repertoire of the theatre; it fully deserves it.

A MYSTERIOUS TALE...

...Also the host of the Festival, which is Warsaw Mime Center led by Bartłomiej Ostapczuk, presented an interesting performance - Aqua de Lagrimas", a mysterious tale bringing back a memory of the famous "Perfume" by Süskind was both a tribute to Marcel Marceau and Henryk Tomaszewski.
And Bartłomiej Ostapczuk as clumsy servant Frollio aroused admiration and emotion.

A BEATIFUL, FRESH AND CREATIVE PIECE

Agua de Lagrimas by the Warsaw Mime Centre: an enchanting evening beguiling with the atmosphere of Cinnamon shops and Perfume; a beautiful, fresh and creative piece; played “from the inside” at full throttle; artistically complete (even though it was a premiere); not too complex, conveying a clear message, full of light and colour. Bartłomiej Ostapczuk gave a superb performance (which could be expected), as did the artists of the younger generation: Paweł Kulesza, Marta Grądzka, Ewelina Grzechnik and Maja Pieczarek...it was nevertheless simple in its expression and at the same time played with passion, full of life.
